DESCRIPTION:Pre-requisite: This Program is for teens & mature preteens who have attended At Home in the Woods or one of our seasonal Programs \nWhile attending our At Home in the Woods Summer Programs\, your children learn wilderness skills that the “village” does together. \nIn Way of the Wilderness Warrior\, your children learn how to develop proficiency with their own skills. They will practice: \n\nadvanced firemaking\, shelter building and camouflage\nblindfold activities\nlearning to listen to inner vision…meditation\nwater stalking\nnight movement (how to move in the night without a flashlight)\ncalling in owls\ncampfire stalking\n\nThey will learn martial arts movements\, animal forms\, advanced stalking and stick fighting (a way to learn balance\, coordination and strength). Warriorship training is not about war…it’s about being able to take care of those who cannot take care of themselves…very empowering for all! \nWith a close-knit community\, we will all help each other grow into the Way of the Wilderness Warrior. \nTime : 9 am to 3 pm \nDay : Monday – Friday \nLocation : Conway\, MA \nDates : July 31-August 4 – waitlist started \nAges :  10+

SUMMARY:Leader-in-Training (LIT) (Teen & Preteen)
DESCRIPTION:LEARNING & PRACTICING WILDERNESS SKILLS WHILE LEARNING HOW TO PEER MENTOR \nLeader in Training (LIT) Program offers the opportunity for preteens and teens to practice their wilderness skills as well as learn how to peer mentor. Mentoring is much more than simply teaching knowledge or skills. As peer mentors\, preteens and teens will lead younger participants to conclusions through the art of questioning. They spark passion\, develop the need and/or desire to know\, ask leading questions and then offer resources to gain answers and understanding. \nPrior to the LIT Program\, Frank requests that LITs prepare a Letter of Intention; in this letter\, LITs are asked to explain the following: \n* why they want to be at this particular Program \n* how they planning on contributing to others’ learning \n* what gifts they have to share \nAND if possible\, attach a photograph of the LIT doing something in nature… \nOn the last day of the LIT Program\, the LITs will be invited to demonstrate their willingness to be an LIT and mentor and to show what skills they learned and how they can integrate them…it can be something they crafted\, wrote\, a video\, a lesson plan. Frank will discuss this more on the first day of the Program. \nUpon completion of the LIT Program\, participants are assessed and may have the opportunity to attend any or all At Home in the Woods Camps as an LIT for half price!
