Saturday

Hey hikers, skiers, outdoor enthusiasts!

What do you do if you get disoriented or some other unexpected situation arises while you’re out and about?

Do you have a survival kit? What are the top 10 things you bring with you when you’re in the wilderness? Learn this and more--study the basics of knife safety, carving methods, handling a knife and blade care.

Introduction to Wilderness Survival

Saturday, 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Are you a hiker, skier or just walk in the woods with your kids? What do you do if you get disoriented or some other unexpected situation arises while you’re out and about? Do you have a survival kit? What are the top 10 things you bring with you when you’re in the wilderness?

Earthwork Programs has been teaching these skills for more than 20 years! Hands-on experiences! Make fire with confidence in wet conditions as well as dry. Learn the power of plants and their uses. Discover ways to bring yourself closer to the land through tracking and awareness.

When people are in extreme situations, they revert to their training…what kind of training do you have?

Imagine yourself surrounded by a circle of friendly folks around the campfire, sharing stories of nature connection, heroes, lessons from the animals and whatever folks want to share with the group. That's the Art of Storytelling!

Do you understand night navigation? It’s not enough to just know where the North Star and the Big Dipper are...you need to be able to know where to look and have special ways to remember and how to be able to tell that you have the right constellation. In this Workshop, we cover this as you become a star navigator.

Sunday

Lost Proofing & the Art of Shelter

Sunday, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Building a shelter is both a needed survival skill and a great way to enjoy the outdoors this season. We have had so many people learn skills with us here and then go home and build these right in their backyard.

  • Learn the mindset when facing an experience where you may have to spend the night
  • Choosing a safe location and what elements to look for before you can start building.
  • The importance of attention to detail that can make the difference between struggle and thriving!

Learn traditional skills that have been passed on through generations! In this family- and adult-oriented class, you will learn the basics of making shelter. Learn the skills to have piece of mind in the woods. Be prepared for comfort in the outdoors–without a tent.

Wild Edibles & Medicinals

Sunday, 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Join Frank Grindrod and the Earthwork Programs Community for a unique “how to,” hands-on immersion experience in wild food and allow it can complement your current culinary habits and lifestyle. Come away with skills in correct identification of wild edibles and medicinals you can find right outside your back door. Because we specialize in certain plants in depth, there are certain ones we'll be reviewing from the previous class as well.

You will learn how and when to harvest by season and in what habitat to seek out your favorite wild edibles.

Discover how seasonal berries provide edible and medicinal benefits for humans and animals.

Opportunity to stay overnight on the land on Saturday night!

Camping for one night-Saturday: $25/person, bring your own tent & supplies

You can set up your tent in our big field - an 8-acre field of mowed grass. It is a short walk from there up to the main lodge where you can use the kitchen and dining room (the water is shut off during the winter).

Bouchard Lodge

The Lodge is a rustic multi-purpose camp building.

The kitchen has a commercial gas range, refrigerator, sinks (water is not available during the winter). It is fully equipped with pots, pans, utensils, plates, cups, etc.  We just ask that you clean up after yourselves and recycle into the appropriate containers.

The dining area is very flexible. We have folding tables and chairs that you can use as needed, a small nature library for reference, and a cabinet of board games. There is an old tv and a pile of videotapes that you are welcome to use.

NEED TO REGISTER FOR CAMPING AT LEAST 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE WEEKEND OF WORKSHOPS
