I’m very excited to announce our upcoming Wilderness Immersion Training! This is a part of Earthwork Programs that I’ve been working on for about ten years, and only now is it finally coming to fruition. Wilderness Immersion Training is the ultimate form of what we do at Earthwork. This is, without a doubt, something very important to me, and I hope you’ll feel the same!

This program will allow us to take students into a depth of skill and knowledge unlike anything we’ve been able to do to date.

The Wilderness Immersion Training, WIT, is a 9-month training program designed for people who are passionate about reconnecting with nature, by providing an immersive experience where primitive skills are learned, but then also engaged and tested in real-world scenarios.

Specifically for this program we’ve built a team of very experienced instructors. Our team is a powerhouse of bushcrafters and primitive skills teachers, each a master of their trade. By meeting for one weekend a month, the students will be training with the instructors in skills such as:

  • modern survival, using modern gear and techniques
  • fire-making with strikers, shelter-building with tarps, modern knives and tools
  • primitive skills and teachings
  • friction fire, shelter-building, stone tool crafting, pack basket making, navigation
  • and more than I can list!

Then, after learning is complete, students will be tested in deep-woods wilderness excursions where they’ll have to use the knowledge and tools they’ve learned, built and trained with. These excursions are the real-deal, putting your skills to the test, and proving you have what it takes. Students will be evaluated for competency in each skillset, and of course, nature will also show them where they need work.

At the end of the training program, students will have all the fundamental knowledge and experience they’ll need to really engage nature at a whole different level. Students will be confident in their own abilities, gaining hands-on experience, first-hand critique, and proving it all in the field.

The program starts in September, and goes through May. I don’t want to reveal all the details just yet (keep an eye out for them!). But, if you’re interested and want to know more, I’d love to fill you in on some details and hear what you think. And if you’re interested in joining the Wilderness Immersion Training, we’d love to hear from you and keep you informed! OPT IN ABOVE!

I can’t wait to see what amazing things our students do in this program!

Thank you for reading, and I hope to talk to you about this amazing training program I’ve put a lot of heart into,

Frank Grindrod, Earthwork Programs
